Bringing new life to an old house

We gave this old house a new life. This is what we started with

Here is the house jacked up and the old foundation removed

And this is the finished product.

Not bad for a house built in the 1800's

Beach house with a view: This is building that we completed this summer. The crawlspace had been flooded, so the owners wanted to raise up the house and get it out of the flood zone. They also gained anouther level of living space.

This is a foot higher than what we started with.

This is the finished height , we raised the building up almost 10'.

Shown here , we are putting in a permanent steel beam that will clearspan the lower level, thus giving the owners a wide open room without any columns.

Once the beams were in place , we could start fabricating the supports and cross brackets to tie it all together.

Historic Grist Mill

This is the Cruzin Mill it is the oldest remaing Grist Mill in the country and was built in the early 1600's. The 6' diameter grinding stones are still inplace in the building. The building is located in Newburyport MA and sits on a tidal river. The building needed to be raised in order to save it from floods. It had been flooded twice in two years from 100 year floods. It was a task to raise the building because we only had a few hours between tides.

This is a picture of when we started the job and the tide water is just starting to come in.

Shown below is the building partially jacked up about two feet  and the tide water is about four feet deep.

Shown here the building has been raised approx 5 feet. and the water is now at high tide. It got to the point where we were about neck deep in the water to reset the crib jacks.
